Technician 1

Summary

The duties knowledge and abilities for a Technician 1 are the same as a Technician 2 except that work is originally performed under strict supervision. As experience is gained greater independence of action is exercised and less detailed supervision is received until the Technician 1 is functioning at the Technician 2 level or above. A Technician 1 works under direct supervision and must be able to execute given work assignments.  The Technician 1 is responsible for meeting or exceeding all company policies and procedures, state and federal laws regulations, and must have an unwavering commitment to environmental, safety and health for all employees and clients.  In addition, the Technician 1 must be able to work with other employees and our customers and have a good understanding of the assigned project.

 

Knowledge, Experience and Skill Requirement

The Technician 1 position requires a high school diploma or equivalent.  Industry experience will be considered in lieu of formal education.  This position requires the ability to understand basic math skills, read and interpret technical documents, read and understand procedures, perform all assigned duties and follow all safety procedures and requirements.

 

The candidate must demonstrate a commitment to compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, company policies, customer policies and an unwavering commitment to safety.  The position requires handling all business affairs with the highest ethical standards set forth by the company and its clients.

 

The Technician 1 position requires the candidate to be self-motivated, responsible, assertive, a problem solver, able to use a high degree of common sense.

 

The Technician 1 must have basic reading and writing skills and understand English verbally as well as in written form.  He or she must be able to legibly write time sheets and complete log sheets to provide a clear picture of what happened, who was involved and what quantities and type of materials and equipment were used on all particular jobs/projects.

 

The Technician 1 must be proficient in the care and use of all site specific, facility and customer required Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and ensure all direct reports are complying with all safety requirements.  The candidate must be able to pass all site specific facility, company and industry tests.

 

The Technician 1 must have a current valid driver license from state of residency and valid proof of insurance.  The candidate must be insurable by the Envent Corporation insurance provider.  The candidate must have a valid TWIC card or, at minimum, be eligible to get a TWIC card, RSO or comparable refinery area training card.  The candidate must be able to pass the company’s employee physical and comply with the company’s drug testing policy.

 

The Technician 1 understands that he or she is working in a twenty four hour seven days a week (24/7) industry environment and as such understand they must be available on a 24/7 basis when required.

 

The Technician 1 will work long hours on shifts up to and sometimes greater than 12 hours at a time.  Additionally, be “on duty” while monitoring systems and safety meters.

 

The Technician 1 will work initially with a mentor but upon completion of short service employee requirements, may work alone in the shop and in the field.

 

The Technician 1 is required to learn and understand all procedures and instructions and should always ask questions if unsure of what to do.

Technician 1 Duties

The Technician 1 will be able to perform the following essential duties:

  • Report to the assigned Supervisor and provide status report.
  • Assist in all hands meetings, JSS SCAN procedures, and all safety communications.
  • Carry out all assigned daily work.
  • Complete all required timesheets, log sheets and customer work permits as required by the task at hand.
  • Review and understand the selection of proper equipment for the task at hand.
  • Know where to find and how to follow all operating procedures.
  • Know where to find and how to follow all environmental permits and regulations.
  • Maintain jobsite and yard housekeeping in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Develop strong customer relationships.
  • Learn the regulatory requirements impacting both Envent and Envent’s customer.
  • Learn what equipment to use and why.
  • Follow up with the assigned Supervisor and ensure you are doing the job correctly.
  • Attend all safety meetings.
  • Provide meaningful suggestions and ideas to improve Envent’s competitive edge.
  • Report all safety infractions or near misses.
  • You have the right to stop any work if you feel unsafe.
  • Be accessible 24/7.
  • Be prompt and courteous.

 

Initiative

A Technician 1 must be proactive in determining problems and finding the right solution.  He or she must be able to recommend corrective action and provide feedback to his or her assigned Supervisor on situations that may impact the company.

 

Interpersonal / Communications

Technician 1’s must be able to communicate effectively to their immediate Supervisor and or safety representative.

A Technician 1 must demonstrate objective listening on a consistent basis and create and maintain an environment that encourages two way communications.  He or she will promote respect within and outside the work group, perform collaborative problem solving and effective working relationships with employees as well as customers.

The Technician 1 must be responsive at all times to his or her assigned Supervisor.  This requires answering the telephone during off hours, weekends and holidays.  The Technician 1 must perform his or her assigned tasks to the satisfaction of his or her assigned Supervisor and or customer.

 

Work Environment and Demands

Work environment is primarily field work.  The Technician 1 will be exposed to various outdoor weather conditions.  He or she will be in industrial plants which will expose them to potentially hazardous situations.  He or she must have all necessary PPE and be prepared to use it as the situation dictates.  The Technician 1 can be subjected to extreme heights and moving mechanical parts.

 

Physical demands of this position are sitting, walking, climbing, stooping and bending.  He or she may on occasion lift and or move up to seventy pounds (70lbs.).   He or she must be physically fit and pass the company physical in order to be qualified to work in this position.

 

Travel

The Technician 1 position will require travel and being away overnight up to twenty to fifty percent (20% to 50%) of the time.  He or she will be required to travel by vehicle or airline to work at the assigned customer site.
