Technician 1 / Driver

The duties knowledge and abilities for a Technician 1/Driver are the same as for a Technician 2/Driver except that the work is performed under strict supervision. As experience is gained greater independence of action is exercised and less detailed supervision is received until the Technician 1/Driver is functioning at the Technician 2/Driver level or above. A Technician 1 / Driver works under direct supervision and must be able to execute given work assignments. These work assignments may and will include performing driving and non – driving assignments. The Technician 1 / Driver must be willing to perform technician duties as well as driving duties, he or she is responsible for meeting or exceeding all company policies and procedures, state and federal laws, regulations and he or she must have an unwavering commitment to environmental safety and health for all employees and clients.  In addition, the Technician 1 / Driver must be able to work with other employees, our customers and have a good understanding of each assigned project. The Technician 1 / driver must be able to evaluate every task before and during any assigned task. When needed, the Technician 1 / Driver is empowered to use his or her stop work authority to further evaluate any questionable decisions of job tasks at hand.

Knowledge, Experience and Skill Requirement

The Technician 1 / Driver position requires a high school diploma equivalent, a valid commercial (CDL), Class A driver’s license and a clean commercial driver (DMV) abstract. Industry experience will be considered in lieu of a formal education record. This position requires the ability to understand basic math skills, read and interpret technical documents, follow procedures, perform all assigned duties and follow all safety procedures and requirements.

The Technician 1 / Driver must also be responsible for mastering all job skills required of a Technician 1 and a Driver. The candidate must demonstrate a commitment to compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, company policies, customer policies, and an unwavering commitment to safety. The position requires handling business affairs with the highest ethical standards set forth by the company and its clients.

The Technician 1 / Driver position requires the candidate to be self-motivated, responsible, assertive, a problem solver, and must be able to use a high degree of common sense.

The Technician 1 / Driver must have a current CDL license from the state of residency and a valid proof of insurance. The candidate must be insurable by Envent Corporations insurance provider, and must have a valid TWIC, RSO or comparable refinery area training card. The candidate must be able to pass the company’s commercial driver DOT physical and comply with the company’s and DOT’s drug and alcohol testing policy.

The Technician 1 / Driver must understand that he or she is working in a twenty four hour seven days a week (24/7) industry environment and as such understand that they must be available on a 24/7 basis when required.

The Technician 1 / Driver must understand that this position requires the employee to work long hours on shifts up to and sometimes greater than 12 hours at a time. Additionally, we require the Technician 1 / Driver to be “on duty” while monitoring systems and safety meters.

Training Requirements

The candidate must have and or complete the following training:

  • Employee Orientation
  • Valid CDL and a clean DMV abstract
  • Envent CDL commercial driving road test
  • SSE training

  • Technician 1 training
  • Safety and quality
  • Field equipment and operation orientation
  • Regulatory compliance

  • Industry (RSO,BAT or HSC)

Commercial Driver Duties

The Technician 1 / Driver will be able to perform the following essential duties:

  • Perform all applicable duties of Technician 1 and Driver, as additionally assigned.
  • Report to the assigned Supervisor and provide status report.
  • Assist in all hands meetings; JSS, SCAN procedures, and all safety communications.
  • Be able to operate and drive all vehicles within the Envent fleet.
  • Carry out all assigned daily work.
  • Be in constant communication with the dispatcher.
  • Perform all pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
  • Having working knowledge of equipment, trailers, lights and troubleshooting pre-trip inspection issues.
  • Maintain Commercial Driver log books
  • Adhere to CDL work hour rules.
  • Maintain a current valid CDL license and medical card at all times and not let them expire.
  • Report all accidents and citations immediately to the assigned supervisor.
  • Report to the assigned Supervisor and provide status report.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Develop strong customer relationships.
  • Learn the regulatory requirements impacting both Envent and Envent’s customer.
  • Learn what equipment to use and why.
  • Follow up with the assigned Supervisor and ensure you are doing the job correctly.
  • Provide meaningful suggestions and ideas to improve Envent’s competitive edge.
  • Report all safety infractions or near misses.
  • You have the right to stop any work if you feel unsafe.
  • Complete all required timesheets, log sheets and customer work permits as required by the task at hand.
  • Know where to find and how to follow all operating procedures.
  • Know where to find and how to follow all environmental permits and regulations.
  • Maintain jobsite and yard housekeeping in a clean and orderly manner.
  • Report all safety infractions or near misses.
  • Be accessible 24/7.
  • Be prompt and courteous.


A Technician 1 / Driver must be proactive in determining problems and finding the right solution. He or she must be able to recommend corrective action and provide feedback to his or her assigned supervisor and or dispatcher on situations that may impact the company.

Interpersonal / Communications

Technician 1 / Drivers must be able to communicate effectively to their assigned supervisor, dispatcher and or safety representative.

A Technician 1 / Driver must demonstrate objective listening on a consistent basis and create and maintain an environment that encourages two way communications. He or she will promote problem solving and effective relationships with employees as well as customers.

The Technician 1 / Driver must be responsive at all times to his or her assigned supervisor and dispatcher. This requires answering the telephone during off hours, weekends and holidays. The Technician 1 / Driver must perform his or her assigned tasks to the satisfaction of management, your assigned supervisor, dispatcher and or customer.

Work Environment and Demands

Work environment is primarily field work. The Technician 1 / Driver will be exposed to various outdoor weather conditions. He or she will be in industrial plants which will expose them to potentially hazardous situations. He or she must have all necessary PPE and be prepared to use it as the situation dictates. The Technician 1 / Driver can be subjected to extreme heights and moving mechanical parts.

Physical demands of this position are sitting, walking, climbing, stooping and bending. He or she will lift and or move up to seventy pounds (70 lbs.). He or she must be physically fit and pass the company and DOT physical in order to be qualified to work in this position.
