Challange
A customer at a Super Fund Site in Central California needed support to dewater a pit dug in a neighborhood in order to remove contaminated soil. Hauling out the wet soil would have added higher shipping cost and additional hazards over the road. The discharge limits had to meet the local POTW regulatory permit for the on-site treatment to be cheaper than hauling off.

Solution
Envent quickly responded with unmanned automated treatment system. Sump pumps in custom containers were utilized with float switched to automatically turn on and off depending on the water level. Water was treated and pumped in to two 500 BBL temporary storage tanks. Automatic discharge was executed with an additional pump operated by automatic float switches. For additional safety measures on the unmanned system, high level float switches and a trouble alarm were utilized in combination with an automatic dialer to notify Envent and the customer if any issues occurred.

Benefits
By expediting the sampling and analysis, the turnaround time for the laboratory result was shortened and the total project time had been cut significantly. Eventually the overall cost of treating and discharging the water was at a fraction of the cost had the soil been hauled off wet and treated off site. The automatization significantly reduced the cost of onsite manpower and added the safety of high level floats to prevent any tanks from being over filled. The customer was pleased with the quick operations and savings of our treatment system.
